Trifecta Health offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy - a structured and extensively researched psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. During EMDR therapy, the patient briefly focuses on trauma memories while experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotional intensity of the memories.

The EMDR Therapy Process
After determining that EMDR therapy is a suitable fit, initial sessions will focus on identifying the client’s goals and enhancing their ability to manage distress.

During the EMDR phases:
  1. Preparation: Discuss the client's goals and improve distress management.
  2. Assessment: Focus on a specific traumatic event and related negative images, beliefs, emotions, and bodily sensations.
  3. Desensitization: The therapist uses side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or taps while the client focuses on the traumatic event, leading to shifts in insights, images, feelings, or beliefs.
  4. Installation: Reinforce positive beliefs associated with the resolution of the trauma.
  5. Body Scan: Identify and process any residual physical tension.
  6. Closure: Ensure the client feels better at the end of each session.
  7. Reevaluation: Assess progress and address any remaining issues in subsequent sessions.

The client has complete control and can stop the process at any time.  The goal of EMDR therapy is to process traumatic experiences fully and integrate new, healthier responses.

Duration and Goals

The time required for EMDR treatment varies based on the client’s history and the complexity of their trauma. Treatment involves a three-pronged protocol:
  1. Past Memories: Addressing traumatic memories from the past.
  2. Present Disturbance: Tackling current triggers and distress.
  3. Future Actions: Preparing for future situations with healthier coping mechanisms.
